One in four Americans now lives in a state with medical marijuana laws. It is time for federal law to acknowledge this. The Truth in Trials Act, H.R. 3939, would enable people facing federal marijuana-related charges to show that they were following state law.

On Wednesday, August 12th, officers representing seven different law enforcement agencies conducted raids in Los Angeles on two medical marijuana dispensaries and the owner’s home. Please urge President Obama and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to end DEA raids and develop a sensible national policy on medical marijuana.

White House Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske recently said that marijuana “has no medicinal benefit.” Please urge Director Kerlikowske to review the scientific record on the medical applications of marijuana and get his facts straight.

On June 11, Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) re-introduced HR 2835, The Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act. The legislation will help protect individuals who use or provide medical cannabis in accordance with their state law. Write your U.S. Representative now and urge support for Patient Protection Act!

California Senator Mark Leno (D-SF) has introduced a Senate Joint Resolution 14 urging the President and US Congress to support ASA’s National Policy Agenda. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) recently introduced an amendment in Congress aimed at obstructing state medical cannabis laws, despite widespread and growing support for medical cannabis. During committee debate, Sen. Coburn challenged us to produce even a single research article to demonstrate that smoked cannabis may be effective treatment for any condition. So let’s take him up on his offer!
